Youth programs are offered Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm during July and August. Non-members are welcome to enrol in our sail training programs. NSC Family Memberships receive a discount on sailing programs. 


Adventure Race

Fee: $325 members / $360 Non members (Includes NSC O’Pen BIC Un-Regatta fee)
Recommended ages: 10 to 12
Sailboat: O’Pen BIC
Prerequisites: CANSail 1

This special 7 day program introduces young sailors to the basics of racing in a fun, friendly atmosphere. Sailors improve their helming skills in O’Pen BICs while learning to compete. Teamwork, sportsmanship and enjoyment are key. The session concludes with NSC’s popular O’Pen BIC Un-Regatta on August 15 and 16. Regatta fees are included in the program.

Learn to Race Team • CANSail 5

Fee: $750 members / $840 Non Members (A 15% discount is offered for full session enrolment from July 6 to August 28)
Recommended ages: 13 to 17
Sailboat: Sailor owned Laser Radial or Club 420
Prerequisites: CANSail 4

This program is designed for entry-level racers and non-competitive sailors wishing to take their skills to the CANSail 5 level. On water training combined with land lessons on racing rules, tactics and boat tuning continue sailor development. The emphasis is on fostering sportsmanship, fitness and camaraderie. Parent support is required for regattas.


 

Instructor in Training

NSC is offering members of the Learn to Race team the opportunity to be an Instructor in Training. Program fees will be waived for selected candidates. There are no fees for the Instructor in Training program.

NSC offers a challenging, comprehensive race program for the advanced level sailor. Camaraderie, teamwork, fitness and a love of sailing are emphasized. The team begins training with a dedicated race coach part time mid-May and full-time in July and August. The program incorporates daily fitness and goal setting for each athlete. It fosters excellence in sailing with an emphasis on personal bests at regattas. The race team attends local and out-of-town regattas with coach support. Parent participation is required for towing boats to events, chaperoning and preparing team meals.

Monday Night BIC Racing

O’Pen BIC

Sailing the school’s O’Pen BIC boats, young sailors, ages 8 – 13, are introduced to racing in a fun and supportive environment. Short, lively races are held close to shore starting at 6:00pm. O’Pen BIC racing activities culminate with our annual O’Pen Bic Un-Regatta.

There are many opportunities to race on Lac Deschênes from local evening to weekend racing events. A crew bank is available on-line to facilitate skippers looking for crew for cruising and racing both dinghies and keelboats.
