TACKERS • Intro to CANSail

Recommended ages: 7 to 9 (Minimum age requirement – 7 years by June 30, 2020)

TACKERS is a friendly, fun introduction to sailing which follows the CANSail 1 curriculum. Children learn water safety, knots and basic sailing skills through games and activities both on and off the water. Exploring the waters by sail with their instructors adds to an adventure filled weekend.

CANSail 1

Beginners learn basic sailing skills, water safety and seamanship in a fun, positive environment, and make strong progress towards achieving CANSail 1 skills. Swimming, beach activities and weekly theme days add to the fun.

Get Up to Speed

This introductory sailing course aims to teach teens an accelerated version of the CANSail 1 curriculum with peers their own age. Learn basic sailing skills, water safety and make new friends in a fun and supportive environment.

Adventure Sail

Prerequisite: CANSail 1

This program offers a variety of sailing experiences beyond the traditional curriculum and aims to instill of a love of sailing through shared adventures and challenges. The emphasis is on keeping learning fun while improving sailing skills and seamanship. An overnight camp out at NSC and beach days add to team spirit.

CANSail 2

Fee: $450 members / $495 Non members
Recommended ages: 11 to 15
Sailboat: Laser Pico, RS Feva
Prerequisites: CANSail 1
Average time to complete this level:  2- 4 Weeks

This level aims to give sailors the confidence, knowledge and skills to sail in winds up to 10 knots. The curriculum includes terminology, docking and sail trim. Instructors keep learning fun with games, swimming, beach activities and weekly theme days.

CANSail 3 and 4

Prerequisites: CANSail 2
Average time to complete this level:   4 – 6 Weeks per level

Strong teamwork, sailor safety and problem solving underscore the camaraderie and challenge of these levels. Sailors continue to improve and refine their helming and crewing skills. Advanced sailing techniques, weather and boat tuning are covered. CANSail 4 introduces sailors to sail theory, racing and mastering boat handling skills in heavier wind conditions.
