The Winter Speakers Series is a captivating series of boating-related presentations and interaction held on Wednesday evenings from January to April. Embrace the opportunity to delve into boating and sailing topics during the non-sailing months at your club while coming together as a community. Gathering for these talks has become a cherished tradition since 2008. During the pandemic the talks were held virtually on Zoom and then in a hybrid version with live streaming. In 2024 the talks will be in person and recorded for viewing later in the year.
While there is no admission charge, we encourage participants to contribute an amount equivalent to the cost of a beer to the NSC Legacy Fund which supports exceptional sailing. In 2023 we raised over $2084.
Program Overview
The Winter Speaker Series keeps you connected with the sailing and boating community during winter months while you immerse yourself in fascinating talks. About half of the participants are from the Nepean Sailing Club with the other half from other clubs in the area. Our volunteer – and sometimes professional – presenters share their expertise, providing new insights into their topic. Each week, we bring you a 30-45 minute talk with interaction covering four main areas:
- Cruising locally and around the world
- Racing
- General sailing-related topics, sailing techniques, tips, and best practices
- From boat, engine, and sail maintenance, to electrical systems and solar panels
