In this talk, Cathy Duchesne and Rick Anderton team up to talk anchorages and anchoring.

Like all long-time cruisers at NSC, Cathy has ideas and insights about where to go and what to do during summer days and nights on the Ottawa River. Rick will share his extensive experience with anchoring techniques, so that you can sleep well at night, knowing that your anchor will hold well.

If you are new to overnight cruising or just need a reminder of warmer weather fun, join us for a visual cruise to our beautiful Ottawa River anchorages. Get ready for summer relaxation on the river, whether on your own or in the company of other boaters.

Cathy and her husband Don have been cruising the Ottawa river for over 30 years. They sail Corrie Doon, an Ontario 32. If you are in the right place on the right morning, come say hi.  You may get some famous Corrie Doon homemade  breakfast biscuits!

Rick Anderton will cover anchor types, chain, rode, warp, bottom types, safety, setting & retrieving, scope, swing, kellet (sentinel), snubber, and practice tips. He will share pointers on anchoring securely, and effectively, as well as common courtesies in anchorages that will ensure the comfort of others anchored near you.

Rick draws on both his cruising experience, but also his extensive Race Officer and Mark Setter roles in Brockville, Kingston and  Ottawa. He’ll also use mooring examples from a houseboat on the Rideau and a charter yacht in the British Virgin Islands.

The meeting is free to attend, but we ask that you consider making a small donation. All proceeds will go to the NSC Legacy Fund, which supports competitive sailing for youth and Able Sail members.

Please register here.  After registration, you will receive an email with a link to attend the Zoom meeting.

The meeting starts at 7.30 pm, but we recommend that you check in to the “waiting room” up to 15 minutes early to check your connection for good quality video and sound. We will be playing content that will enable you to test.
