Nepean Sailing Club and Britannia Yacht Club together offer the most sailboat races of anywhere in North America. This presentation is an “Information Fair” about NSC’s One Design Fleets and what it takes to make our racing program happen.

Led by our Fleet Captain Dominic Goodwill, you will be introduced to several instructors and fleet representatives. This evening is intended to be interactive, so it will be in a Zoom meeting format, rather than our usual webinar.

Find out about training for volunteers, racing on a cool boat, or how to get started racing. Participating as a racer or volunteer is an immensely enjoyable way to spend the summer, with tremendous camaraderie.

Sailboats have been raced for at least 500 years. We continue that tradition in our sailing program, providing a high-spirited but supportive environment for racers of all abilities. Over the course of the year and all our events it takes 200 volunteers to make our races happen – from the race committee, to mark layers, handicappers, judges, scorers and more.

This evening, we will have short presentations about:

  • Our training activities for members who want to take up racing – all free, included in NSC membership
  • Training events for volunteers for our support roles
  • One Design classes, which are the sharp end of our race offerings

After these presentations, you will be asked to choose from various Zoom breakout room sessions. There you can follow up on specific components of the race training program and individual One Design classes.

This year we are using Eventbrite to publish the online link. This is in response to requests to make it possible to make a donation, as has been the tradition for as long as these talks have been held.

The meeting is free to attend, but we ask that you consider making a small donation. All proceeds will go to the NSC Legacy Fund, which supports competitive sailing for youth and Able Sail members. When you click on the link you will be able to register for the talk for free. You will also see a second option to donate. Please register first, and then donate if you wish.

Please register here.

After registration, you will receive an email with a link to attend the Zoom meeting.

The meeting starts at 7.30 pm, but we recommend that you check in to the “waiting room” up to 15 minutes early to check your connection for good quality video and sound. We will be playing content that will enable you to test.

This will be in a meeting format, but we ask that you please mute your microphone when joining, until you are invited to ask questions.
