The past 35 years have seen NSC grow and change by leaps and bounds.  On Sailpast week-end – June 13th, 14th and 15th – we invite you to come join us to celebrate NSC’s past, present and future as a premiere sailing and boating club in Eastern Ontario.

6PM  – DINNER & LIVE MUSIC WITH AMANDA RHEAUME

What better way to kick off the weekend with a traditional summer Friday dinner and live music on the deck with the sweet sounds of Ottawa’s own Amanda Rheaume

9PM – OPEN MIC UNDER THE STARS

Bring your voice, your instruments and your talent: We want to hear you belt it out.   There will be a tent set up on the ground in front of the entrance to the docks, so come on out and sing, watch and enjoy.  This is YOUR chance to provide the entertainment!

1030PM – LIGHT UP THE NIGHT + “FAMILY” PHOTO

Here’s the idea – get as many boats in the harbour (or on the hard) lit up and then take a photo of NSC in all its splendour at night!  How you light up your boat is your decision. Here are a few ideas to help get your creative juices going:

  • navigation and anchor lights
  • lights on lifelines
  • lights strung up mast on halyards (Christmas lights) – remember LEDs take less power and can be run off an inverter
  • solar garden lights
  • glow lights/sticks
  • battery operated lights
  • patio lanterns
  • battery operated candles

11AM – BURGEE PRESENTATION

Our annual burgee presentation at the Flag Staff.  Come and salute our long standing members.

2PM – COMMODORE’S SALUTE

This is the formal (well, as formal as we get) part of the Sail Past event.  This is your chance to salute our Commodore as we officially kick off the 2014 sailing season.  The Sailing Instructions for event are as follows:

  • Any changes to these instructions will be announced at the burgee presentation.
  • The Commodore will take the salute aboard his boat, flying the Commodore’s burgee. Boats should leave the harbour by 1300 hrs and assemble at the rendezvous area designated by the race committee boat flying the blue RC flag (likely the Andy Haydon, white hull). The rendezvous area is expected to be about 1 nautical mile up river of NSC in the racing circle.
  • The Sail Past will begin at 1400 hrs with multiple sound signals and a red flag from the Race Committee boat. The lead boat will be the Tornado “Fubar” with sail number KC-350, and will have John Blackwood, Fleet Captain on board. At the signal, all boats shall follow in line behind the lead boat, starting at the Committee Boat, and proceed towards a yellow tetrahedron drop mark just north of the Commodore’s boat. Round the mark to starboard and then cross astern of the Commodore’s boat.
  • Salute the Commodore by luffing your jib or by dipping the club burgee.

Note: These will also be posted shortly on the Club Website.

4PM – DRINKS & MUSIC ON THE DECK

Once you have your boat safely back at the dock, come up and join us for a drink and some music.  It’s a great way to unwind, meet other members and get ready for an evening of partying.

6PM – COMMODORE’S DINNER

Join us for a delicious dinner with a menu that will take you back in time to when the Club began.  We will also have a head table consisting of our Commodore as well as many of the past Commodores of the NSC – these ladies and gentlemen had the helm of the Club over the past 35 years and we’re sure they have a story or two to share about our rich history.

8PM – DISCO PARTY

Dance the night away to the sounds of the 1970s (and probably a few other decades too!).  We will have duo DJ team spinning the sounds and a laser light show that is not to be missed!!  Make sure you get decked out in your best Disco suit as there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place best-dressed Dancing Queen or King.  Not sure how to dance, no problem – we will have some professional dancers fromFred Astaire Dance Studio on hand to show you how…you may even see a member or two in that dance troupe – keep an eye out!

SOMETIME LATER….MUCH LATER – SLEEP ON YOUR BOAT

After a night of dancing and partying like it was 1979, there’s no place better to sleep than on your boat, so join in our first ever sleepover party…we’ll make getting up in the morning a little easier too…

8AM – MIMOSAS SERVED BOATSIDE

Want to start your morning off on the right foot – let us help!  We will be serving Mimosas via water-taxi to members that have risen to see the light of day.  So deck out your boat with balloons and we’ll provide a glass of “Good Morning” to get you going.

9AM – BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST

After all of that partying and then a sleep (nap?) on your boat, a good hardy breakfast will be in order and the Galley is rising to the occasion and serving a full breakfast!  Join us for some java, eggs, and all the fixings…

12PM – MAYOR’S VISIT

We open our gates and decks to the community to come and join in our celebrations that will be kicked off by Our Mayor Jim Watson paying us a visit to raise our 35th Birthday Club Flag up the Flag Staff and to be the first to cut our Birthday Cake.  After saying a few words, the Mayor will fire the starting gun for a Victoria Class (remote controlled boat) race in the Harbour – another first for the NSC!

12:30PM – RICHER & ROSE ROCK THE GROUNDS

Our very own Richer & Rose Band will keep us entertained all afternoon while the Galley and Bar ensure that your refreshment needs are taken care of.  We have some games for the kids on the lawn and the parents can relax, dance and take in all that NSC has to offer!
