NSC is very fortunate to have a large collection of attractive trophies and we are now pleased to be able to present these in a new Virtual Trophy Gallery. View our trophies from every angle, learn the history of where they came from, and read who has won them over the years. Racing sailboats of all kinds is a big part of who we are and what makes us a club, and most trophies are for competitive sailing, but there are also trophies for volunteer contributions, sportsmanship and “most original boat handling techniques”.
The Trophy Gallery is actually a subset of a larger database of Trophies & Winners. Not all events have associated trophies; for example, there are no trophies for most of the dinghy and one-design evening series, yet the database still includes the winners of those series. Search the database based on the year, event, winning boat, and/or winning skipper/crew.
Dan Servranckx and Hugh Morrin have already spent hundreds of hours each over the past 6+ months on this project, which built on work originally started by Phil Wilcox in 2008; Adam Hunt & Kathryn Barr took most of the several hundred photographs, and others have shared information about the history of various trophies. However, there is still much work yet to be done; information for pre-2004 still needs to be added for most trophies and a major re-design of the back-end is in process to deal with trophies that have been rededicated for different events over the years.
Feedback on the user interface is welcome, and corrections of any errors or spelling mistakes would be much appreciated; these should be sent by email to Hugh Morrin. We would also love to hear from members willing to help fill in the missing data.
