We are excited to present a great slate of speakers for this year’s winter speaker series: 13 weeks of talks ranging from exotic voyages in far flung corners of the globe as well as other parts of Canada, to sailing history, high performance sailing in international regattas, practical tips on buying a boat, Coast Guard initiatives and participating in racing, cruising and inter-club events on our very own river.
The winter speakers series takes place Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm, starting on January 23. Chef Rony has also made Wednesday night Steak night, so come early to enjoy a great steak dinner before the presentation! As always, there is no charge for the presentations, and all are welcome. We will just ask for a small voluntary donation to the Legacy fund.
Kicking all of this off, we are delighted to have Geoff Green return with another tale of polar adventure accompanied by superb photography and illustrations:
Wednesday Jan 23 7.30 pm | Geoff Green | Sailing to Antarctica
Geoff will provide an inside view of the challenges and majesty of sailing from South America to Antarctica. Expect fascinating photographs and insights! Geoff has captained over 125 sailing voyages to Antarctica and other polar regions with many illustrious passengers – including sailing his 50 foot boat into the Arctic Ocean – usually to take research scientists to their areas of interest.
Last year Geoff gave us a very well attended and received presentation on The Canada C3 expedition (of which he was the founder and leader): a 150-day, 25,000 km nautical journey through the fabled Northwest Passage.
Geoff is the Founder and President of the Students on Ice (SOI) Foundation and an Order of Canada recipient who has given hundreds of lectures worldwide on polar environmental subjects and issues.
A summary of the rest of the Winter Speaker series all be published shortly on the NSC website.
