The single-handed keelboat race was held on Sunday, August 23, with very light winds from the northwest. The RC signaled a windward-leeward course, from D to the recently laid H mark, twice around, but shortened the course after one lap. Results are posted for the the Whippet Cup (corrected time) and the Ottobahn Trophy (elapsed time).

Thanks to Dominic Goodwill and Rick Nelson for stepping in for Race Committee.

Below is the original announcement:

The single-handed keelboat race has been rescheduled for this Sunday, August 23. Fleet apologizes for a miscommunication in this challenging year that resulted in no Race Committee being scheduled for the original date this past Sunday. Warning gun at 1400 in the vicinity of the Olympic circle. Boats from all Lac Deschenes clubs are welcome.

Up for grabs for NSC boats are:

  • The Whippet Cup for first overall, on corrected time.
  • The Ottobahn Trophy for top 3 boats on elapsed time. (No keepers.)
  • Keepers for top 3 boats on elapsed time.

Boats will be scored using their non-flying sail (aka JAM) handicap, but for those who dare, spinnakers are allowed.

The course
The RC boat will be the Andy or the Bill, flying the RC flag and course flag W.
Class signal for all boats will be #1 pennant.
The course will be displayed on the back of the RC boat, using the Olympic Circle permanent marks. The marks shall be rounded in the order posted, leaving marks to port.
For example, “2 laps, C G” would be displayed for a start and finish near G, with the following order: start-C-G-C-finish.
Offset marks may be deployed and shall be rounded immediately after their primary mark. Offset marks, if deployed, will be yellow cylinders.
The start line and finish line are between the RC flag on the RC boat and a pin with an orange flag.

RC will monitor VHF 72.

A chart of the Olympic Circle is available at the NSC chart page.

All the general SIs are as per the 2019 SIs.

Check-in/Registration is on-the-water at the RC boat. All boats must check in.

Since 2017, NSC and BYC have combined their single-handed races into this event. (BYC offers separate awards for BYC boats.) NSC is pleased to host this event.
