One Design Racing on Lac Deschenes:   In Ottawa we are blessed to enjoy a vibrant sailboat racing scene in the form of the Inter-club race series.  The premise of this discussion is that One Design racing is one of the series’ principal anchors, and the goal is to get you thinking seriously about joining one of the established one design classes or creating your own.

Participating in a one design race means no more calculating your finish time using PHRF ratings, and you know you are competing on a truly level playing field.  First across the line wins the race! One design fleets currently include: Viper 640s/J80s, C&C 27s,  J/24s and Kirby 25s, Martin 16s, Shark 24s, Tanzer 22s, International 505s,  Youth Dinghies (420s).

This presentation will be of interest to anyone who is interested in getting into racing, either as crew or as a boat owner.

The kitchen opens at 5.00 pm, and the presentation will start at 7:30 p.m.  Wednesday is Steak Night. Members of all local sailing clubs obtain a discount on food purchases by showing a valid club membership card. Attendees are asked to make a donation to support the NSC Legacy fund. The speaker series continues weekly until April 17. Please see the Winter Speaker page for details.
