September sailing is just around the corner. And while our LTS Youth and Able Sail Race teams hit the road (Youth Championships, Mobility Cup), there’s a packed schedule of local regattas and organised sailing events on deck for NSC members to enjoy September’s fall winds.
It feels like we’ve finally had a positive turn in the weather, and the long-range forecast is certainly looking fantastic. Whether you sail a keelboat, multi-hull, or dinghy, theres something for everyone. So lets go sailing and boating before its time to put the water toys away!
Local Interclub Regattas:
September is a preferred month for regatta’s after most of the season tuning boats and skills on club race nights. And the list of opportunities for NSC and Lac Deschenes club boats on home waters is no exception.
KSC Open (KSC), Sept 2-3rd – (Lasers, Albacores)
FANFARE (NSC), Sept 9-10th – (Dinghies & Cats)
Lac Deschenes Open PHRF (BYC), Sept 16-17th – (PHRF Keelboats)
Canadian Albacore Championships (NSC), Sept 22-24th – (Albacores)
Of special note for 2017: For keelboat racers, one of the more popular (and applicable) regatta formats is back again in September 2017 with the Lac Deschenes Open PHRF hosted by BYC. While for Dinghies and Cats, this year NSC is pleased to host the Albacore Canadians 2017 in addition to our annual FANFARE regatta.
Cruising & Day Sailing:
September offers warm temperatures with great daytime winds, so what better month to get that extra (or “been meaning to”) cruise overnight or day sail with friends in? While there’s no organised NSC flotillas like Baskins Beach per se, for those new to cruising the “Ottawa Riviera” there’s some great cruising resources and the anchorage community is a helpful and social lot when you arrive.
Upriver Race Cruises:
For those looking for a weekend afternoon upriver cruise/race with family and friends, there’s the popular BYC’s Queen’s Park (Sept. 10) and the NSC 20 Mile Trophy (Sept. 24) races. For serious long distance racers, BYC’s 100 Miler (Sept. 8) and Fall 50 Miler (Sept. 30) are also on hand.
Not sure of your schedule, or looking for an ideal windy day? Don’t forget the Jacques Adam River Challenge is open till the end of October. You go when the wind blows!
Weeknight Racing/Sailing:
Of course full weeknight racing continues till the end of September with the Fall Series just underway. And the NSC members Weekday Sailing group continues to meet Tuesdays before noon. On the social side, don’t forget the Interclub End of Weeknight Series (all race fleets) social at BYC on Sept. 28th.
See you on the river and club deck in September.
