The Able Sail Group at NSC has an added interest in the Paralympics this year.
Scott Lutes from Montreal is the sail trimmer on the Canadian Sonar team of Millar, Campbell and Lutes. Scott has trained and travelled with our NSC Sailors and has competed in the National Capital Cup here at NSC. The defending Gold Medalist in 2.4mR is Paul Tingley from Halifax, his coach Craig Guthrie from Halifax did a 2.4 clinic here at NSC last summer.
We have another connection with the Sonar team, Bruce Millar the skipper sold a 2.4 to Peter Wood several years ago, and the trailer that came with that boat was totally rebuilt at NSC and is the back up trailer when our crew goes to the U.S. for regattas and training.
The Canadian Sailors in all three classes 2.4, Skud18 and Sonar all have a good chance to medal, a stark contrast to the sailors who represented Canada in the Olympics.
There is a strong possibility that Christine Lavalee, Aaron Wong Sing and Scott Lutes will represent Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick in the Jeux Canada Games next summer in Sherbrooke PQ. This is the first time Sailing for people with disabilities will be in the Canada Games, and 2.4 is the logical choice for the boats. Christine and Aaron by virtue of their results at the recent 2.4 Canadian Championship held at NSC are favorites to represent Quebec and Ontario.
GO CANADA GO!!!
