Saturday, August 28 was the Harbourmaster’s Race. The day started out looking rather bleak and dreary with high gusty winds and morning rain. But mother nature came through with a nice (if not consistent) wind from the east of about 10 knots and no rain. Six hardy participants turned up to rig and then demonstrate that they could actually fit into an open Bic (at least for a while). Most of the knees complained enough that their owners called it a day after 3 races. This year no one had the honours of a harbour swim! When it was all over Darius Aliahmab came out on top.

Special honours to Parke Davis who had his grand-kid with him for the last race. Parke actually did better in this race so the suspicion is he got some expert coaching!

Below is the original announcement:

Adults in Open Bics! Racing around the harbour in the Harbourmaster’s Race! This is NSC’s “funnest” race of the season – well, at least for those watching from the Clubhouse deck.

Open to all members and guests over 18 years. Sign-up on the NSC deck at noon, Saturday 28 August. First heat at 13:00. Galley open as usual. “Advice” from spectators & family on the deck is particularly welcome.

Please note that participants will be required to rig and de-rig their boats (part of the fun!).

Sadly, your fleet captain cannot attend this year’s event. Good luck to all participants during the race and even more getting back out of the boat!
