North U Racing Tactics – cancelled for this season

- Sailboat racing is complicated. Successful racing requires strategic planning, strong tactics, and a clear understanding of the rules (plus competitive boat speed). Performance Racing Tactics provides a framework to help make sense of the complex playing field on which we compete. We’ll help you and your team understand where to focus your attention to make the best decisions in an uncertain setting.

How to Help Run an NSC Regatta

- It takes a village to raise a child, and a team of volunteers to run a regatta. Learn how to contribute to these top-tier events at NSC and effortlessly organize a successful regatta. Tips on recruitment, budgeting, race documents, marketing, being green and more. Brought to you by our experienced regatta gurus Matt Davidge, Scott Murphy and Dominic Goodwill.

Assistant Race Officer Course
- 29, 31 March 2022, 1900-2200
- An Assistant Race Officer is capable of assisting in the running of a race as a member of the Race Committee crew of a regatta. Certification requires the successful completion of the 4-hour Sail Canada ARO Race Management Course. Applications for certification and re-certification are handled by the Provincial Sailing Associations in ON, BC, and QC and by Sail Canada for all other applicants.

Women’s Race Officer Course

- A Club Race Officer manages the on-the-water activities of regattas at the club level. Certification requires the successful completion of the Sail Canada CRO Race. Management Course and a record of practical experience in Race Committee organization.

Club Race Officer Course
- 5, 7, 12, 14 April 2022, 1900-2200
- A Club Race Officer manages the ‘on the water’ activities of regattas at the club level. Certification requires the successful completion of the 12-hour Sail Canada CRO Race Management Course and a record of practical experience in Race Committee organization. Applications for certification and re-certification are handled by the Provincial Sailing Associations in ON, BC, and QC and by Sail Canada for all other applicants.

- Description: Learn to drive the Fleet powerboats safely, when assisting in NSC Fleet events.

Friday Night Keelboat Race Practice
- 20 May, 27 May, 3 June 2022. 1700 onward. Harbourview Hall NSC and Lac Deschenes
- This course will help you get your feet wet racing by introducing basic rules and skills in a classroom followed by on-water practice on Lac Deschenes. For those with experience, this is a chance to try out your racing moves and practice for the season.

Dinghy Racing Training via Rental Dinghies

Assistant Mark Laying Course (Prerequisite for Mark Laying Course)
- 28 May 2022 – morning. Harbourview Hall NSC + Lac Deschenes
- An Assistant Mark Layer (AML) can assist a mark layer (ML) as a member of the Race Committee crew of a regatta. For more information see Race Management Program Sail Canada.
- Cost: $38.70 (includes taxes). NSC will reimburse the fees for any NSC member
- Participants: On-land element – member of any club. On-water element – NSC members only.

Mark Laying Course
- 28 May 2022 – afternoon and 29 May all day. Harbourview Hall NSC + Lac Deschenes
- Among other things, an ML is responsible for all marks and mark laying equipment (anchor, chain, and rode) and be ready to solve problems relating to marks and their ground tackle. An ML is capable of laying marks for any course configuration and manage changes requested by the Race Officer promptly and accurately using GPS, hand bearing compasses, geometry, and other tools to ensure the precise placement of all marks on a racecourse.
- This course is for individuals who have already completed the Sail Canada Assistant Mark Layer Course. If you have not previously participated in the Assistant Mark Layer course, please register for the Combined Mark Layer Course listed at Race Management Program.
