After the past 2 years’ hiatus due to COVID, we are again planning a real, live Bring on the Bay Charity Swim for Saturday, July 16th. Nepean Sailing Club & Britannia Yacht Club are the swim hosts. We anticipate lots of swimmers plus the usual cast of almost 200 volunteers including two Ottawa Fire Rescue boats, 40+ kayaks, SUPs, canoes and 6 crash boats with 36 plus anchored boats/safety islands along the 3000m & 1500m routes across the Ottawa River & into BYC.
This year, we will inaugurate a new 1500m course starting at “Surfers Beach,” a part of Britannia Beach Park. Those swimmers will start @8:45am, swimming northwest and then circle around to join the 3000m course 600m from the finish, finishing at BYC with all the others.
The efforts start about 7:00 AM at NSC and you will be finished by 10:30 AM, so it’s an early but not all-day commitment!
If you plan to be here at NSC & if you’re interested, I’d appreciate your help in staging this event.
Our volunteer needs are:
- Anchored boats, one every 100m along the swim lines (full complement of 36). Contact – Parke Davis.
- Kayakers, SUPs & others (see this post) to shadow the swimmers (10 still needed of 40). Contact – Harold Piel, Paddler Captain.
