Sunday March 13, 5:05 PM. 10 deg C outside. Sun pouring in. Impossible not to think about the sailing season that lies ahead. Even with an extra day in the month, I missed a February report, so here is the February and “early March” version.
At last Fall’s AGM, I explained that my agenda for our Board is to focus on three themes: We will make sure that it is easy, safe and convenient for you to use your boats; devise new ways to explore using your boats and club; and, ensure that NSC is the Club where you belong. In three words: Boat, Explore, Belong. To support this, we have developed a five-point strategy that will be shared at the upcoming, soon-to-be reformatted “Spring Information Meeting” on Thursday, April 28th. Expect your invitation shortly.
A New TellTale!!
By now, you have seen the newly reformatted TellTale. We couldn’t be happier with the excellent feedback. As always, if you have ideas or topics to share, please contact our PR Director, Paula McCooey.
Attention Boat Owners
By now, your Membership and Mooring Fees are paid and the annual Mooring Allocation Process is well underway. The process looks at every slip in the harbour to maximize the number of boats and members that can enjoy NSC.
As described at the AGM, where you are stored in the yard determines when you should be ready for launch. Please be prepared, Spring approaches!
Its a matter of Insurance
Last week, I received my annual invoice from “The Skipper’s Plan” for HiJinx’ insurance. Along with it, comes the slip of paper that declares I am insured for the year. As inconvenient as my next request is: NSC needs up-to-date proof that your boat is insured, and starting this year boat owners will have to provide it before your Slip Allocation is provided. This will be done each year in much the same way that it’s done for car registration. We will be in touch with more details and next year we will build this into the mooring invoicing process. Every Member who has a financial share in your vessel must be listed on the insurance policy.
Around the Club
With our Hospitality Manager – Jade Andary – expecting the arrival of her first child and about ready to take her maternity leave, we are happy to introduce Ivy Teofilovic. Ivy comes to NSC with a wealth of experience: we’re lucky to have her so please be sure to say “hello” when you’re at the Bar and at the Spring Information Meeting.
Our Clubhouse is looking sharp: new windows and new siding to update her look and protect the building. The renos created a small dip in our rental revenues which we are planning to make back in the coming months.
A New Committee!
The new “Membership and Volunteer Committee” is designed to help “on-board” new members to the Club, encourage volunteerism, recognize the volunteer work of members, and listen to suggestions and concerns of Club members. Look for more activities of the MVC in the near future from Membership Director John Connolly.
Spring is coming, Summer is short: Enjoy Your Boats!
