This past Sunday, NSC assisted in transporting volunteers to Aylmer Island for a shoreline clean up. 13 volunteers from Ottawa Riverkeeper and Deep Blue Cleanup and three boat drivers from NSC removed 44 pounds of garbage and a derelict fiberglass dinghy. In preparation for the Fall yard cleanup, members are asked to remove any items stored in the boatyard other than registered boats, cradles or trailers no later than 30 September. There will be a yard cleanup after this date and items not attached to a registered boat, cradle or trailer will be disposed of.
As of 13 September, a new White Spar Buoy marker has been installed over an underwater hazard discovered within the NSC channel that has been struck by several members’ boats. Please exercise caution when transiting around this area.
Water levels on Lac Deschênes are approaching record low water levels; they are currently lower than they have been since 2012. There have been some incidents of boat groundings on the east side of the channel near the 4th green buoy when leaving the harbour area. Please proceed with caution.
Members with boats moored in the harbour, this is a gentle reminder to please keep your outboard motors in the “down” position when moored. Otherwise this can pose a hazard to other boats when entering or leaving the harbour.
Update 2021-08-13: Still awaiting parts. Do not follow other vehicles through the sliding gate into the boatyard. The detector loop is not functioning. This means that your vehicle and the gate could sustain significant damage if it starts to close when you are part way through.
Members assigned a wet mooring are reminded to ensure their boats are moored such that there is no overhang over the main dock span (ie. bows, anchors, pulpits). As well, there is only one type of authorized dock bumper that can be installed as other designs will cause our newly decked docks to rot prematurely. …
All wet-moored boat owners are requested to check bilges under the engine and in the keel sump for contaminant leakage. If there is any sign of contamination, owners must turn their bilge pump OFF until the source of the leak is repaired and the bilge cleaned of contaminants.
