Sunday August 22, three Nepean Sailors Aaron Wong-Sing, Christine Lavallee, and Peter Wood and their Montreal training partner Scott Lutes will be travelling to Newport, RI for the Thomas Clagett Junior Memorial Regatta. They will be testing their skills against top New England sailors and will receive special coaching from Betsy Allison the United States Paralympic Sailing Coach.
This will be an important event says Peter Wood, one of the sailors and the principal coach for the NSC sailors. We definitely are improving against our Canadian competition and this regatta will measure our skills against the US sailors.
The able sailors are working towards representing Quebec and Ontario in the 2013 Canada Summer Games where the 2.4mR class for sailors with disabilities will be included in the sailing events for the first time.
In September Christine Lavallee and Karell Regnier will be representing Nepean Sailing Club at Mobility Cup 2010 in Vancouver. Looking further ahead the 2.4mR sailors are planning to sail the 2.4mR North American Championships in Fort Myers FL in December and the 2011 Miami OCR in late January.
