The upcoming Launch/Haulout schedule will be posted on this page 4-7 days before the scheduled event.  We recommend checking this page regularly to stay up to date.  Additionally, any changes or updates to the schedule will be made live online.

Haulout Date Tied to your Expected Launch Date

At NSC, we understand that the Yard can be limited in space during the spring and fall seasons. To ensure that NSC’s objectives are met and to avoid the need for offsite winter storage, it is crucial for boat owners to be mindful of their boat’s storage location and timing.

Don’t Miss the Boat

It may seem a bit early for some to start thinking about this, but we organizers try to keep ahead of all you anxious sailors. Most of you have been there before and should know the drill, but experience shows it is not just newbies that miss the boat here – (pun intended).

Plan Ahead and Be Ready

  • Block the day on your calendar.
  • The yard is closed to all other activity while the commercial cranes are in the yard, so have your boat and cradle ready to go at the latest the day before Haulout.
  • Set your alarm so you have lots of time to be at the club before 8:00 a.m.
  • Your cradle must be level and ready to accept your boat (pads or bunks in place) before haulout day, or your boat will not be lifted, and you will not be able to work on your cradle on Haul-out day.

Mast storage

  • Masts must be stored atop your boat unless you have a fitted cover that will not accommodate it or if the overhang endangers traffic (see 5.10 of the Harbour and Yard Policy).
  • If the mast must be stored on a rack, you must get permission from the office and acquire a mast tag to affix from the administrator.

Before Haulout-Day To-Do List

  • Ensure your Haul-out fee is paid – no pay, no lift. (Check the club notice board or the web for the Haul-out schedule).
  • Ensure all boat work is completed before Haul-out day – including having your mast down and secured to the boat or in the mast racks.
  • Check your engine to make sure it’s in working condition or if not, be prepared to notify the Crew that you need a tow. If you are winterizing your motor before Haul-out, ensure that no hazardous material goes into the harbour and that any material is properly collected and disposed of in accordance with Section 7 of the Harbour and Yard Policy .
  • Attach bow and stern lines to one side (the same side) of the vessel. The lines should be at least 8 meters (25 feet) long.
  • Your vessel should be marked to indicate where the lifting straps should be placed.
  • Fenders should be attached to make sure that your highly polished hull doesn’t scrape against the dock.

Be Safe

If you are hauling your boat with Commercial cranes, please be aware of the haulout activity and respect the people under the hard hats – They are volunteers. You will be allowed in the yard (without vehicles) but must stay clear of the Haulout area – and will not be able to use either of the crane wells.

No vehicles are allowed in the yard after 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning and the gates will remain closed until the cranes leave after Haul-out.

Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please keep your eyes open for potential safety issues and report them to a Haul-out crew member ASAP (anyone with a hard hat). Unless you are part of the haulout crew, please stay outside the yellow tape unless being escorted by a safety officer.

On Haulout-Day

  • Arrive at NSC early. You and your crew should be on site by 08:00 a.m. (earlier if you are first to Haulout).
  • When you arrive, register with any radio person at the clubhouse or with the safety crew. Ensure that you know which of the cranes you are scheduled for.
  • Bring your FRS radio, listen on Channel 10, or stay nearby and listen to the club PA system.
  • When your name/boat is called, bring your boat promptly to the haul-out dock. If you need a tow, notify the tow boats well in advance of your being called and indicate which of the two cranes you are scheduled for.
  • Turn your boat over to the dock crews and ensure you tell them if there are special instructions for positioning the straps (prop shafts, sail drives, sensors, etc.).
  • Leave your boat and wait beside your cradle.
  • Ensure that your boat is set on your cradle properly – this is your responsibility.
  • Once your boat is secure in its cradle, move out of the haul-out area. You cannot stay with your boat or work on it until all boats have been hauled.
  • One last item: Haulout is run completely by volunteers – a thank-you goes a long way.
  • In general, there is no entry to the Haulout area for any reason until the cranes have left the site. This helps keep a well-coordinated and safe Haulout.

Commercial Launch

If you plan to use the commercial launch this year, please ensure you are on the launch list. If you are not on the list and would like to use the commercial launch or if your boat weighs over 10,000 lbs, please contact our Launch Coordinator to be added to the list.

Plan ahead and be ready

  • Block your calendar for the day. While boats are launched in sequence, the timing and order can change for any number of reasons.
  • On Launch Day, the yard is closed to all other activity while the commercial cranes are on site, so have your boat ready to go at least the day before Launch.
  • Set your alarm so you have lots of time to be at the club before 8:00 a.m.
  • Monitor the NSC website every day for any updates.

Before Launch Day To-Do List

  • Ensure that your launch fee is pay…no pay, no lift.
  • Make sure that all your boat work is completed. Bottom painting and keel work are not permitted that day.
  • Ensure that all thru-hull fittings are closed.
  • Check your engine to make sure that it is in working condition and that you have fuel aboard. If you have an outboard, have it on the boat. If you need a tow to your slip, please advise the Launch Coordinator.
  • Antifreeze must be removed from your motor before launch collected and properly disposed of in accordance with the Harbour Environmental Policy.
  • Attach bow and stern lines to one side (the same side) of the vessel. The lines should be at least 50 feet long.
  • Your vessel should be marked to indicate where the lifting straps should be placed.
  • Fenders should be attached to ensure that your highly polished hull doesn’t scrape against the dock.

Read Our Notice

If you haven’t done so already, please read our notice about Before Launch.

The launch starts at 08:00 A.M. Skippers and crew are expected to be on time to ensure that your boat is launched properly and motored carefully or towed to your slip.  As usual, Launch will be coordinated by volunteer radio crews in the Clubhouse using Channel 10 on Family Radio Service (FRS) radios.

It’s About Safety, Not Speed

While we make every effort to launch boats efficiently and in sequence, our primary concern for the day is the safety of our owners. Please be patient and heed any direction from people with hard hats. Keep in mind that Launch is made possible by the efforts of almost 100 volunteers who are members, just like you.

On Launch Day

  • Be at NSC early. If your boat is scheduled to be lifted early, you must be at NSC by 8:00 a.m.
  • Register with the radio crew in the clubhouse.
  • When you are called, report to the area on the road just behind your launch area and let our security volunteers know you’re there.
  • For safety’s sake, please remain behind the yellow tape and out of the launch area until you can be escorted to the dock area by a security crew.
  • Once your boat is in the water, get on board, start that engine, and safely motor away to your berth. I your engine won’t start, there will be boats on hand to tow you to your slip.

After Your Boat is Launched

  • Access to the Yard is restricted on Launch Day until the Commercial Cranes leave the Yard. Provided that your boat is not moored on W Dock, you will have access to your slip.
  • Folding cradles must be folded on the day following Launch so they are ready to be stored the Monday morning after.

Thanks for your cooperation!
