Keeping the Ottawa River Clean

River and sailboats

Did you know NSC is proud to be a partner of Deep Blue Cleanup? We are committed to environmental stewardship and have been certified as Bronze by the Boating Ontario Clean Marine program. As part of our efforts, we are excited to offer each Full Member a complimentary bilge sock to their boat this year.

Complimentary Bilge Socks

These bilge socks were handed out at Sail Past on Saturday, June 10, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm under the blue tent. If you haven’t received yours yet, don’t worry! You can pick one up at the NSC office. These socks play a crucial role in preventing oil and fuel from entering the water, helping us keep the Ottawa River clean.

Environmental Programs

At NSC, we are continually striving to improve our environmental footprint. If you’re interested in learning more about our environmental programs or want to find out what these bilge socks are all about, we encourage you to visit us at our office. Our friendly staff will be more than happy to provide you with additional information.

Bilge Socks and Absorbent Pads

To further enhance our environmental initiatives, NSC now provides oil-absorbing pads along with bilge socks to our members. If you have an inboard engine, you can collect these absorbents from our office. The primary purpose of these pads and socks is to absorb minor fuel leaks before they enter the harbour, helping to prevent pollution.

Proper Disposal

Oil Absorbent Pads Only Receptacle

We kindly request that you dispose of these items responsibly. To ensure proper handling, please only use the designated yellow bins marked “Oil Absorbent Pads Only.”

These bins are conveniently located at the entrance/exit of our dock system. By using the right receptacles, we can effectively manage and dispose of oil absorbents in an environmentally friendly manner.
