We are helping new dinghy sailors get more time on the water. There has always been a gap between completing CanSail training and participating in the Wednesday evening dinghy racing. And that gap is being filled by NSC’s new Dinghy Skills Program.

Experienced dinghy sailors support the program as volunteers and mentors. The Sail Training Centre provides an instructor and 420s. The first four-week session had five 420s provided by the club, and 2 Albacores sailed by their owners. Participants include current dinghy owners and new members, all of whom have their CanSail 2.

The primary focus of the course is getting participants ready to race: practicing starts, going around a race course, and most interestingly, sailing without a rudder. Not impossible, as it turns out, and very very instructive.

The second four week session begins Friday July 28. You can sign up here.

  • Four Fridays: July 28 – Aug 18
  • One registration per boat. As we will be sailing double handed dinghies, please bring a partner
  • You must have CanSail 2 certification or equivalent experience.
  • If you would like to bring your own dinghy, please register and we will sort through the details later

Please contact Leo Evans for more information.

This is part of Fleet’s Menu of Training Opportunities which includes sailing skills and race operations training.
