Get ready for launch, with tips and how-to’s from Fraser Robidoux. Launch season starts in a few short weeks!

Whether you are new to preparing a boat for launch, or are looking for some reminders or new techniques, this is a timely presentation on things we should be doing now or over the next few weeks to get ready for boating and sailing season.

Fraser’s list of topics will build on recent presentations on using the yard and harbour, sail and canvas maintenance and repair, and care of your diesel engine. He will cover:

•Sail inspection and repairs
•Engine maintenance or replacement
•Spars and rigging
•Boat shows
•Weather related projects
•Launch day
•After launch
•Boats not being launched this season
•Trailer launch boats
•Getting ready to motor or sail

Fraser sails Rainy Day Woman off W dock.  You can find him most Thursdays sailing in Jam fleet, or around the yard and club volunteering and helping newcomers “learn the ropes”. In his spare time he restores old engines, and rebuilds Optimist dinghies. He helps several friends get their boats ready for launch.

Fraser grew up in Shediac New Brunswick, the Lobster Capital of the World. Shediac Bay Yacht Club had a large sail and power boat fleet. Always interested in boating and boat building, and one of his early builds was a Sabot Pram, which was the basic trainer back in the day. Other interests include metal working, wood working as well as restoring and building boats (both fiberglass and wood) with about a dozen projects on his completed list. He also has a small collection of marine engines: two outboards, a Yanmar 1GM and a Westerbeke 4 cyl and a vintage Acadia 4cyl flathead gas engine. Another long term project is restoring a 1967 Volvo 122S car.

The meeting is free to attend, but we ask that you consider making a small donation. All proceeds will go to the NSC Legacy Fund, which supports competitive sailing for youth and Able Sail members.

Please register here.  After registration, you will receive an email with a link to attend the Zoom meeting.

The meeting starts at 7.30 pm, but we recommend that you check in to the “waiting room” up to 15 minutes early to check your connection for good quality video and sound. We will be playing content that will both enable you to test, and provide useful information about upcoming events.

During the webinar, you can use the Q&A button to ask questions at any time. The moderator will relay any questions to the presenter at the end of the presentation.
