The 2021 Sailing Instructions & Race Calendar are available as a pdf. See below for a list of the major changes.
Notices to Competitors / Sailing Instruction Amendments:
- Amendment #1, 2021-07-14: In Part E, 1.1, JAM fleets are amended to read: JAM A: 0-211; JAM B: 212-232; JAM C: 233+. See this post for more info. This change has been incorporated into the pdf version of the SIs dated 2021-07-14.
- Amendment #2, 2021-09-13: In Annex A, the course for the 20 Mile Race is changed to read “Start at P Mark. Leave to port drop mark at Pinhey’s Point, finish at P Mark as per Part H, 6.3. Distance: 14 Nm.” Warning at 1100. For more info, see this post.
Main changes made to the SIs for 2021:
- Noted applicability of 2021-2024 RRS, and updated references accordingly.
- Some re-ordering of sections to align with the World Sailing templates for Notices of Race and Sailing Instructions. Similarly, some sections renamed for consistency with World Sailing templates (e.g. “Protests & Requests for Redress” now under heading “Hearing Requests”; “Disclaimer of Liability” now referred to as “Risk Statement”). Consequently, all sections were re-numbered.
- Document now referred to as “Interclub NOR & Sailing Instructions”.
- If no race has been completed by the second to last scheduled race of the Spring Series for either Tuesday or Thursday keelboat race nights, then the Spring Series will be cancelled, and the last scheduled race of the Spring Series will be the last race of the Ice Breaker series. This is to avoid having a Spring Series that consists of only one race. Not applicable in 2021, but will be carried forward to 2022.
- SI 10.2 addresses the display of class flags for boats that do not have a backstay.
- Boats competing in mixed PHRF/JAM (FS/NFS) racing and not displaying a class flag may be scored as PHRF (FS) and will not be eligible for redress.
- Provision for Post-Race Penalties moved from “Scoring” to “Penalty System”.
- SI 19.5 added to ensure that the top boat in the PHRF (FS) and JAM (NFS) Fleets will get a keeper.
- J22s will constitute a one-design fleet, and share a start with the J24s, on Thursday night, when/if one-design keelboat racing happens.
- For up-river races hosted by NSC, the start and finish will be at P mark.
- For weekend events, boats that submit their finish time after the deadline stated in SI 6.4, but within 72 hours of that deadline, will incur a 2 point penalty. Boats that submit their finish time more than 72 hours after the deadline, will be scored DNC, or DNF if their presence on the race course was otherwise recorded.
- For weekend events, boats may declare their fleet as PHRF for some races, and JAM for others. Boats that do so shall be considered as two separate entries, and will appear in the results for both the fleets.
- For events labelled as Interclub, prizes will not be awarded to boats that are not from the host club.
- A new Part I has been included for Time Trials.
- Annex A for Weekend and Special Events has been reformatted.
- Clarification of which events and trophies get keepers.
- JAM Fleet splits have changed, per Amendment #1.
