With Mike Thompson at 7.30pm: Mike will share his passion for all things NSC. NSC’s programs continue to grow and evolve and provide a space to kick back and relax, and an outlet to explore, learn and accomplish. “The facilities are the best bar none. NSC is a gem!” NSC is about creating together what people need for the best experience in sailing, boating, and socializing with others. It’s a place where people can relax and feel belonging, especially as they volunteer together.
Did you know that half of our membership has joined in the last five years? We are growing! Mike will give special attention to what new members can expect and how those of us who are more seasoned can support them.
Mike learned to sail over 20 years ago at the Kanata Sailing Club when he moved here from Northern Manitoba. Since then, a curiosity has long turned into a passion. Mike, Collette and family joined NSC some 15 years ago. He has sailed single-handed dinghies, sport boats and cruisers, including as an instructor with Advantage Boating. He currently races “Zamboni”, a Viper 640. Mike’s passion is racing and not only because of the adrenalin and skills involved, but also because of the social aspect of the sport, racing all together, including post-race with other members in the clubhouse.
Mike has served on the Fleet Committee for several years and has co-chaired the Nepean One Design Regatta three times and is now the NSC Fleet Captain. Mike is a semi-retired consultant in the semi-conductor industry.
