A talk about sailboat foiling: the “new black” of sailing. The Americas Cup yachts do it, Little Moths piloted by rubber Cirque du Soleil athletes do it. But can YOU do it?

Dave Bradly:  “That is the question I will endeavour to answer in this short, very personal story of foiling in sailboats. Of course, we will cover technology as it is such a pivotal piece of this puzzle, but we will also delve into the question: is foiling for you and me? I will cover my own standing start to World Championship participation – the journey that I am committed to now, with more than a slight dose of self-deprecation and humour.”

“Pics and videos to support all things that happened. Allegedly.

Come. Ask questions. Laugh. Enjoy. Maybe even be persuaded to “go like hell” yourself. I spent 9 days last winter foiling in Florida!”

Dave Bradly started sailing at a very early age (4yrs?) with his Dad in the UK, in 505’s (him crewing) and Cadets (Dave helming). And hated every minute of it.

Dave has raced many different boats from state-of-the-art carbon foiling catamarans to State of the Ark 2.5kt s*&t boxes. Loved them all. As an engineer, took an unnatural interest in all things sailing and related materials. Founded a company in 2007 to design, test, build sailboat foils and spars of all kinds (among other things). Toured the world racing from Sydney Australia (Aussie 18s, International 14 Worlds, and the Hobart Race), to 505 Worlds Santa Cruz, to a Farr 60 in the Fastnet Race. Found time to setup the first viable skiff racing fleet in Ottawa back in 2002 and brought the first foiler to Ottawa: a moth in 2010. Got back to the foilers in 2019 (A Class catamaran).

Retired, dedicated father of 2 grown and almost gone children and fiancée to Debbie. She’s an awesome sailor too.
