It was a cool and cloudy day on Thanksgiving, but there was a great wind out of the east at ~10-16 knots, and 43 boats participated in NSC’s annual Turkey Trot. Thanks to Doug Patterson and the W-dock RC posse, and to the kitchen staff for the wonderful turkey box lunches provided to all of the competitors. Congrats to the dinghy sailors who took the top five spots! Check out the results.

The original announcement is below.

Get some healthy outdoor exercise on Thanksgiving. Pick up your free turkey lunch box from the West lawn, then sail around the Olympic Circle. Free, no registration, lunch box provided by the club as a thank-you. Open to all members of NSC and other Lac Deschenes clubs. Each boat has a pre-defined start time, first boat at 11:05.

Keelboats, able, dinghy, cats. Details in sailing instructions. Number of laps (1 or 2) will be decided based on weather. You don’t need to be registered. If you can sail your boat, then come out for some healthy outdoor exercise at a distance, as the Province encourages us to do.

There are typically 50 boats at this annual event.

NSC keelboats and NSC dinghy/cats that go round the course in the best corrected time win keeper awards (pick them up at haulout).

Sailing instructions are here (pdf) with map of the course and start time of each type of boat. If you want to sail, and your boat type is not listed, send an email to Doug Patterson and we will work out your proper start time.

This overview describes what the Turkey Trot is about. It is our chance for the club to thank you, and for you to thank each other, that we made it through the season.

This year, we can’t have our usual buffet feast. Instead, the Galley has put together a free lunch box – pick up at the West lawn – available by 10:00. Lunch on your own boat.

No skippers meeting. No gathering before or after. No gathering on the water. A representative will be at the West lawn from 10:00 to 10:15 to answer questions.
