The NSC Board recommends the following COVID-19 safety precautions on-board boats participating in NSC events.
Safety precautions
- People in different social circles are allowed only incidental contact.
- People in different social circles must not sit shoulder to shoulder (e.g. on the rail). This is considered physical contact, which is not allowed.
- You must wear a mask when incidental contact is possible with people outside your social circle.
- You may stow your mask close at hand at other times.
As a guideline
- Stay 1 set of stanchions distance away from anyone outside your social circle.
- Wear masks when moving about the cabin or cockpit, where incidental contact is likely.
Social circle
- The Ontario government says: No one should be part of more than one social circle.
- Social circles are exclusive. You cannot have a maximum-sized circle for your family + business, and then another circle for your sailing buddies.
- Social circles are a maximum of 10 people. This has not changed in Phase 3.
Exception
- If there is only 1 social circle on-board, you do not need to wear masks and everyone can be as close as they like.
Dinghy/cat
- Due to the relatively small size of these boats, it is not considered safe to participate with anyone from outside your social circle.
Responsibility
- The NSC COVID-19 Plan and Procedures requires all participants to follow provincial and municipal guidelines and direction.
- Sailing is a self-policing sport. Each sailor is responsible for their own behaviour and for compliance to NSC policies and procedures.
