At last year’s AGM I announced that we had created this new position at NSC. And now I am very pleased to announce that Shawn Batten will be our very first Sailing Activities Manger.

Among other things this full time position will be responsible for

  • overseeing the Able Sail and Sail Training Programs
  • recruiting and mentoring the seasonal sailing staff
  • operating the dinghy rental program
  • overseeing the maintenance of all club-owned sailing boats
  • engaging and educating members (existing and potential) regarding sailing opportunities
  • driving community outreach
  • applying for federal, provincial and private grants to fund new programs

Here are a few words from Shawn:

Hello! I’m Shawn and I’m proud to be NSC’s first Sailing Activities Manager. Sailing is my passion but more than that, I love helping people live their best life and believe sailing can be an inspiring gateway to that end. I bring a wealth of management expertise from the corporate world as well as having owned and operated our family business. Further to that domain, I have decades of experience directing and operating summer camps for kids and youth. I lead by example and believe in empowering those I work with. I’m a sailing instructor, NSC member, people lover and captain to the best crew, my family – my First Mate, Heather-Joy and our four sailors, AB (10), Charlotte (9), Jeslyn (4) and Declan (18 months). I’m also an aspiring Ukulele player! You’ll find me in the Clubhouse or the Sailing School – don’t be shy, come by and say hi… from six feet away, of course! Or contact via phone or email:
