As of 9 March 2010, new and modified pages / posts on NSC.CA will no longer be tested for IE6 backward compatibility.

The reason: until that date, I kept IE6 on my laptop to check how any addition and change to the web site would look like, so I could add hacks, directives and style fixes to compensate for any of the numerous IE6 shortfalls and misgivings.

Then I read the latest report on a massive attack targeted at Google mail that used a yet undiscovered loophole in IE6 and decided that the pride of keeping full backward compatibility was not worth the risk of having my work tool compromised… So I finally upgraded to IE8, which means I no longer have means to check pages rending in IE6.

This end of support is not unique as major corporations/ organizations like WordPress, Google, and YouTube no longer support IE6 either!

Finally, this does not mean that IE6 users will see any immediate changes, but over times, new or edited pages and posts may not render properly. I can only urge IE6 users to upgrade to IE8 or use safer, web compliant web browsers like Firefox, Safari or Google Chrome.
