The ultimate test of sailing skill: the single-handed keelboat race is Saturday 25 August. Warning gun 13:50 at the Olympic circle. Boats from all Lac Deschenes clubs welcome.

Here’s the instructions, copied from the official Sailing Instructions

NSC/BYC SINGLEHANDED KEELBOAT RACE – Sat, Aug 25
PHRF, JAM
NSC AWARDS:
Whippet Cup 1st Overall, C.T.
Ottobahn Trophy Top 3 finishers, E.T.
Keepers All classes combined – C.T.
TIME: Warning 1350
COURSE: Course to be sailed will be within the Racing Circle, and will be displayed on the RC boat. Note: PHRF Boats will be handicapped as having NO spinnakers, however, spinnakers may be used with NO change in handicap.

To explain this a little more: The racing circle has 8 mark positions named A through H (although currently most don’t have a permanent mark). Our race committee will choose 2 or 3 of these marks, putting drop marks in as needed. They will write up on a board on back of RC boat what is the order of passing marks, leaving marks to port. The marks chosen will be based on the wind direction & wind strength. Typically 1 or 2 laps, depending on wind.

Check-in/Registration is on-the-water at the RC boat. All boats compete in one division and are handicapped as non-flying sails (JAM) but here’s the twist, spinnakers are allowed for those who dare!

Since 2017, NSC and BYC combined their single-handed races into this event. NSC is pleased to be the host.
