Thanks to a great team of volunteers, another fantastic NSC Turkey Trot Race and Feast took place this Thanksgiving Monday October 12th at our club.

It was a gorgeous, sunny, warm fall day, perfect for the record number of  members and their families who turned out for a little on the water fun at NSC’s traditional closing sailing event.

Congratulations to Rejean Tremblay and team ‘Rushlight’ who were the first club boat overall and first Keelboat across the line this year, fending off a swarm of fast Cats, Dinghies and a modern I-14 in close pursuit.   (We really should investigate their handicaps again for next year :))  And congrats to the Nacra 20 ‘Shango’ who led the dinghy/Cat class home to the finish.   The final overall results are published here for your viewing.  Theres a few blank fields for boat and skippers names, but that’s only cause we also had a record number of non-race registered boats turnout for the event which is a great thing!

Thanks to Co-Chair Doug Patterson and his RC team who ran the pursuit race  after weeks of careful research into updating the latest handicaps for anything with a sail in our harbour and dinghy park.   According to Doug, this years Turkey Trot was a record club turnout of over 50 club boats with everything from Laser’s to Will’s giant Cat trotting around the racing circle.  Even a few boats from CVGR and BYC joined in for the fun!

Great NSC days and events like Turkey Trot don’t just happen on their own, but only with the generous volunteer contributions of our NSC members. On behalf of the participants, we’d like to also thank this year’s Co-chair Leo Belleperche and the team of on-shore volunteers who remained behind on shore to prepare and set out a fantastic feast!   Also, our sincerest thanks to Gene Bruce, who organized the supplies, and our volunteer Ham/Turkey cookers Fran Kelly, John Perry, Tom Miller, Leo and Jenn, Michael Gertsman, and Ross Ernst.

We look forward to doing it all again next year!  Gobble, Gobble, Ross E.
