NSC will add “In Memoriam” posts to the NSC website upon request when an NSC member, or someone with very close ties to the club or a member, dies.

The title of such posts will be in the format of “John Doe, 1930-2013”. The wording of such posts will generally be “It is with great sadness that we report the passing of [long-time][founding] NSC member John Doe, [skipper of Boat “Boatname”]. A Celebration of John’s life will be held … Details are available in this obituary.” The term “long-time” is discretionary, but 10+ years is a good guideline. It may be appropriate to make brief mention of the deceased’s involvement with, or connection to, NSC, but generally such posts should only be one paragraph long.

Posts will normally only be added to the NSC website once an on-line obituary is publicly available, and the post will then link to that obituary. If an on-line obituary is not publicly available, then an In Memoriam post would only be added at the specific request of a family member, or a close family friend acting on behalf of the family. In such case, the family member would be asked to provide appropriate wording.

In Memoriam posts will be “expired” after ten days, meaning that they will no longer be displayed on the NSC home page of current posts. However, such posts are not deleted. All In Memoriam posts are available by searching on the In Memoriam category.

The Canadian flag on the NSC mast may also be lowered to half mast, as explained here.
