Eric Hill of seasurvival.ca will be running an ISAF/Sail Canada accredited Offshore Personal Survival Course at NSC on the weekend of Feb 1-2. Space is limited. [Note: Unfortunately, this course filled up in one day.]

Classroom training will begin at noon on Saturday, Feb 1st, in NSC’s Harbourview Hall (formerly the East Room), with the in-water session running 1930-2130 on Saturday evening at the Pinecrest Pool. Sunday’s training will run 0800-1700 at NSC.

Register on-line at http://www.seasurvival.ca/registration.html; course information is available at http://www.seasurvival.ca/course-information.html. Cost is $399 + HST.

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own foul weather gear and PFD to try out in the pool.

What you get? 2 days of theoretical and practical personal offshore safety and sea survival training that prepares participants to negotiate passage making and ocean racing with competence and confidence. The course is endorsed by Sail Canada and leads to the award of an ISAF personal offshore safety certificate of competence. The international certificate is valid for a period of five years for offshore racing.

Who should get it? Cruisers as well as coastal, offshore and distance yacht racers and anyone contemplating extended sailing across open water that requires any degree of self-sufficiency. The course is especially valuable to crewmates who sail together offering the opportunity for team training and mutual understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses as a team. There are no pre-requisite qualifications or sailing experience required.
